چکیده

Infectious diseases spread through human networks. Susceptible-InfectedRemoved (SIR) model is one of the epidemic models to describe infection dynamics on a complex network connecting individuals. In the metapopulation SIR model, each node represents a population (group) which has many individuals. In this paper, we propose a modified metapopulation SIR model in which a latent period is taken into account. We call it SIIR model. We divide the infection period into two stages: an infected stage, which is the same as the previous model, and a seriously ill stage, in which individuals are infected and cannot move to the other populations. The two infectious stages in our modified metapopulation SIR model produce a discontinuous final size distribution. Individuals in the infected stage spread the disease like individuals in the seriously ill stage and never recover directly, which makes an effective recovery rate smaller than the given recovery rate.

The reachability of contagion in temporal contact networks: how disease latency can exploit the rhythm of human behavior

Background: The symptoms of many infectious diseases influence their host to withdraw from social activity limiting their own potential to spread. Successful transmission therefore requires the onset of infectiousness to coincide with a time when its host is socially active. Since social activity and infectiousness are both temporal phenomena, we hypothesize that diseases are most pervasive whe...

Numerical solution of the spread of infectious diseases mathematical model based on shifted Bernstein polynomials

The Volterra delay integral equations have numerous applications in various branches of science, including biology, ecology, physics and modeling of engineering and natural sciences. In many cases, it is difficult to obtain analytical solutions of these equations. So, numerical methods as an efficient approximation method for solving Volterra delay integral equations are of interest to many res...

Spread of infectious diseases: Effects of the treatment of population

In a metapopulation network, infectious diseases spread widely because of the travel of individuals. In the present study, we consider a modified metapopulation Susceptible-Infected-Removed (SIR) model with a latent period, which we call the SHIR model. In the SHIR model, an infectious period is divided into two stages. In the first stage, which corresponds to the latent period, infectious indi...

Control of emerging infectious diseases using responsive imperfect vaccination and isolation.

This paper is concerned with a stochastic model for the spread of an SEIR (susceptible --> exposed (= latent) --> infective --> removed) epidemic among a population partitioned into households, featuring different rates of infection for within and between households. The model incorporates responsive vaccination and isolation policies, based upon the appearance of diagnosed cases in households....

Network epidemics and early stage vaccination: the effects of infectious and vaccination delay periods and their randomness

It is known that the distributions of the latent and infectious periods affect the dynamics of the spread of an infectious disease. Here we consider the SEIR epidemic model describing the spread of an infectious disease giving life-long immunity in a community whose social structure can be represented by a simple random graph having a pre-specified degree distribution. Two real time vaccination...
